Sound Collective - KV331 Audio Synthmaster

SynthMaster is an award-winning software synthesizer by KV331 Audio.

Our Sound Collective giveaway for November to January is one that no electronic musician is going to want to miss. KV331 Audio’s SynthMaster Player takes the essence of the enormously powerful SynthMaster synthesiser and scales it down into a compact, easy-to-use preset-based virtual instrument for Mac and PC in VST, AU and AAX plug-in formats.

Despite its cut-down interface, SynthMaster Player makes no compromises in terms of sonic quality and versatility. Running the full SynthMaster engine under the hood, it draws on multiple synthesis techniques, including virtual analogue, wavetable, FM and physical modelling. 1800 factory presets by a broad spectrum of artists and sound designers – including Arksun, BT, Rob Lee, Nori Ubukata and Vandalism – take in synth tones and noises of all kinds, from basses, leads and keys, to pads, arps and FX. The preset browser is searchable by instrument type, style, tonal characteristics and more, and Scala tuning is supported, enabling unconventional and exotic tunings to be applied on a per-preset or global basis. The GUI also comes in two colour schemes, and you can even make your own skins using the SynthMaster or SynthMaster Demo interface editor.

SynthMaster Player makes it simple to call up great sounds in an instant, but you can still get hands-on with it when you need to adapt the presets to your projects. Every preset features eight macro control knobs and two XY pads, assigned by the sound designer to carefully selected internal synthesis and signal processing parameters for quick and easy editing, and linkable to your Launchkey, Launchpad or other MIDI controller using the onboard MIDI Learn function. Each of a preset’s two mixed Layers can be muted, levelled and independently routed to two send effect busses, and bypass buttons are accessible for all Layer and Global effects.

Taking SynthMaster Player beyond the huge factory library, Sound Collective members also get three awesome preset expansion banks by BigTone. Analog Basics and Analog Basics 2 each comprise 50 vintage-style patches, while Techno Bits packs in 50 dark and edgy sounds aimed at techno and the deeper forms of house.

SynthMaster Player is ideal for the producer seeking an expansive source of fully designed sounds suitable for use in all styles of dance and electronic music, and that require little – if any – tweaking to work into the mix

“SynthMaster Player is stripped down in functionality but packs an audio punch,” affirms Sound Collective Product Manager Jonathan Campbell. “What I like about most this tool is how quickly I can get an inspiring sound from it to start my projects off with. With up to eight macro controls, I can shape the sound enough to make it my own, before exporting the audio and processing with other tools.”

KV331 Audio SynthMaster Player retails for $29, and each of the three BigTone expansions cost $15, but Sound Collective members can download the whole lot ($74 worth in total) for free from their Novation account, between 21st November 2019 and 6th February 2020.
