Av has been a big fan of Novation for some time, and is more than familiar with Novation's synth heritage. "My first Novation piece was a SuperNova II Rack and I loved it; Novation have always put out quality gear." These days, he prefers a streamlined, more portable approach. "I've done a complete scale down to a mobile setup so nowadays I use my Macbook Pro with Pro Tools and Logic. My Novation 25 SL MkII pretty much runs the show with Automap. All of my plug-ins and synths are mapped to it and it controls whatever DAW I'm using smoothly. Pretty much anything that comes out with my name attached to it was done using the 25 SL MkII. We are also adding it to Estelle’s tour to trigger some special synths and samples on stage."
But it's not just the plug-and-play immediacy of the controller that Av appreciates, "I love the feel and quality of the 25 SL MkII’s keyboard and knobs. I’ve used every USB controller under the sun and none of them feel like a Novation does. I’ve had other MIDI controllers that have crashed my DAW or didn't have enough knobs to map to plug-ins or they made me search through a bunch of windows just to map something simple. Automap is so quick and easy to use and program so I’m never limited to how creative I can be when using Novation gear."
Summing up, Av couldn't be happier with his Novation controller. "The 25 SL MkII has made my life so much easier as well as opened my mind to a whole new world of creativity when I perform on stage or work in studio. It’s basically my all-in-one unit that does everything I need it to do and more. It just works with no limitations!"
